Ethiopian Airlines says it will send the black box from its crashed 737 MAX 8 abroad for analysis as it continues its probe into the cause of the tragedy.
“There is no capacity here so the black box will be sent elsewhere for analysis. The investigation team will decide where,” Reuters quotes a spokesperson from the airline.
Sunday’s crash occurred a few minutes after the plane had left Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa heading to Nairobi, killing all 157 people on board.
The fatal crash marks the second time that a Boeing 737 Max-8 plane has gone down in five months, the first being off the coast of Indonesia, last October.
Countries including Ethiopia, China, Singapore, Australia, Indonesia and the UK have suspended the use of the Boeing 737 Max 8 as reports emerge that the company may have made some software changes without training pilots.
The Boeing Company is however adamant that it has “full confidence in the safety of the 737 MAX.”
Ethiopian Airlines also announced on Tuesday that the identification and release of the bodies will begin in five days, though the process may take longer for some considering the impact of the crash and subsequent fire.
