The Ethiopian government has set up a resource mobilization committee tasked with coordinating efforts of gathering financial and non-financial materials for COVID-19 emergency preparedness.

While launching the committee Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali said, a time of crisis like this, the effort and contribution of each individual is paramount.

He is on the battlefront of the fight against the pandemic saying “I have vowed to give my one month salary to the initiative. Coming together as a nation in such trying times and caring for our most vulnerable is a national duty and responsibility.”

He added that “Our collective and concerted efforts to help one another in times of great need will be the only way we overcome. Modeling the effort to ‘keep calm and contribute’ the national committee members have donated their one month salary to the National COVID-19 resource pool.”

This even as the Federal Government institutions joined the course to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, with government employees being asked to adhere strictly to the ‘work from home’ policy and remain at home.

Following the directive provided by the Prime Minister, a total of 184 out of 289 members of staff from his office will now work from home for the next two weeks.
