Egyptian House Speaker Ali Abdel Aal Monday affirmed the importance of abiding by the social distancing measures during the general sessions in order to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus.

House Secretary-General Counselor Mahmoud Fawzy, in a statement, said the speaker appealed to the lawmakers not to bring companions during the days of sessions.

The precautionary measures adopted by the parliament aimed to encounter the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of people within the house, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the speaker thanked the lawmakers for their cooperation with the General Secretariat.

The house is due to resume its sessions on Tuesday that will run for two days after taking a set of firm anti-coronavirus precautionary and preventive measures.
