Egypt’s official findings on Sinai plane crash dispute initial terrorism claims
Egyptian authorities have released the first official findings on the Sinai plane crash. Russia and Western governments have said the jet was likely brought down by a bomb but Egypt says so far, there’s no evidence of terrorism.
The country’s civil aviation authority says the international committee investigating the crash has found nothing to suggest terrorism, or any other illegal act.
The Airbus A321 plane crashed on 31 October in the Sinai Pennisula, shortly after take-off . It had been carrying Russian tourists home from Sharm al-Sheikh, and all 224 people on board were killed.
ISIL claimed responsibility for the crash.
Egypt has been fighting an Islamist insurgency in the Sinai for the past two years. Hundreds of soldiers and police have been killed. But the president says, security forces are making progress.
