Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday travelled to France for a three-day state visit, durng which he will meet President Emmanuel Macron.
The two presidents are expected to bilateral hold talks on economic cooperation and the fight against extremism.
They are set to make a joint statement at the Elysee palace on Tuesday after holding their first meeting.
Macron’s administration sees Egypt as a key ally in France’s efforts to stabilize the troubled North African region.
Egypt has been struggling to contain an Islamic militant insurgency led by a local affiliate of the Islamic State group, mostly in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.
Attacks have also recently increased in other parts of the country.
France and Egypt have concluded several arms deals since 2015, including the purchase of two French Mistral-class helicopter carriers, 24 French Rafale warplanes and missiles.
The North African country is also regarded highly by the Donald Trump administration government, which is keen to ensure peace in the Arab countries.
