Egypt seeks World Bank help in resolving Ethiopia dam issue
Egypt will seek help from the World Bacnk in resolviung its dispute with Ethiopia over the latter’s multi-billion dollar dam project in River Nile.
The North African country’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made the comments in Addis Ababa following a visit to the country where he met with his counterpart there.
According to Shoukry, the World Bank is “neutral and decisive.”
He also said that “science should be the determining factor” in resolving the issue.
Cairo says the dam that Addis Ababa is building will threaten water supplies that have fed Egypt’s agriculture and economy for thousands of years.
Ethiopia however hopes the Grand Renaissance Dam will help make it Africa’s biggest power exporter.
The East African country has accused The North African side of flexing its political muscle to deter financiers from backing other Ethiopian power projects.
Ethiopian officials are expected in Egypt next month.
