Egypt has coordinated with Libyan forces to free several Egyptian nationals kidnapped early in September in Libya, Egypt’s official news agency MENA reported on Thursday.

“The kidnapped Egyptians were sent back home,” MENA said, without mentioning the number of kidnapped Egyptians or the details about the conditions of the kidnapping.

This reportedly comes as part of coordination efforts between the Egyptian Intelligence Service and Libyan authorities.

Libya has been locked in a civil war since 2011. The situation escalated in 2014, splitting power between two rivals with warring forces, namely the UN-backed Government of National Accord based in the capital Tripoli and the eastern-based Libyan National Army led by Khalifa Haftar.
