Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Iraq and Jordan held a tripartite meeting on Sunday in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The meeting focused on various issues, including economic cooperation between the three countries as well as peace efforts in Iraq.

Egypt’s foreign ministry said before the meeting that it expected talks to include “developing mechanisms of cooperation and integration between the three countries and exchanging views and assessment on Arab and regional issues.”

The meeting comes some four months after another tripartite summit held in Cairo and attended by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Jordanian King Abdullah II.

March’s summit stressed the importance of advancing economic, trade and investment cooperation between the three countries, as well as capitalising on the potential of the three countries’ geographical connectivity and their joint strategic and economic interests.

Ahead of the Baghdad meeting the Iraqi foreign ministry said the tripartite meeting will discuss “combating terrorism and investment through a series of agreements and understandings that include economic coordination and support for Iraq in the reconstruction of areas liberated from the control of Islamic State (IS) group.”
