Egypt FM, UN envoy discuss Mideast peace process
Egyptian Foreign Minister held talks in capital Cairo on Wednesday with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov, where they discussed the latest developments of the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The talks between Shoukry and Mladenov addressed “the latest developments on the Palestinian scene and opportunities for re-engagement in the peace track to achieve security and stability in the region,” said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in a statement.
Shoukry reaffirmed “Egypt’s fixed stance in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, until reaching the establishment of their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, based on the principle of the two-state solution and in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions,” according to the statement.
He also voiced support for the UN envoy’s efforts that seek reviving the Middle East peace process and achieving stability and security in the region.
For his part, Mladenov updated the Egyptian top diplomat with the latest talks he had with the concerned parties for this purpose, expressing his keenness on continuous coordination with Cairo in this regard.
Shoukry and Mladenov also agreed to continue consultation and coordination in the coming period in order to follow up the relevant developments.
