EgyptAir Flight MS181 was hijacked Tuesday morning by a passenger that threatened to be wearing explosives and made to land at Larnaca airport in Cyprus.

So far all passengers on board have been released leaving five foreigners and the plane crew on board.

Only one hijacker has been reported, Egyptian state TV has identified him as an Egyptian-American dual citizen by the names  Ibrahim Samaha, and he is believed to be a Professor at a University in Alexandria, Egypt. Egypt hijacking is believed to be a personal matter involving a woman and Cyprus state media says he has demanded asylum in the Cyprus.

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades has said Egypt plane hijacking not related to “terrorism”

Cyprus state TV says the EgyptAir hijacker wanted to contact his ex-wife, who lives in Larnaca. BBc has reported that police and government sources say the hijacker’s estranged wife is being taken to the airport to speak to him.
