Brewer reports a 36% jump in pre-tax profit

Kenya’s East African Breweries says its pre-tax tax profit grew 36 percent to reach 138.7 million dollars in the year ended June. The surge was attributed to rising sales of beer brands, restructuring measures and selling of non-core assets.

Kenya contributed 61%, Uganda 18%, Tanzania 11% and other countries in the region including Burundi, Rwanda and South Sudan collectively contributed 10%.

EABL started off slow in the first quarter of this year following strong global dollar strength and political unrest in some markets in the region like Burundi and South Sudan. It has also been affected by an ongoing illicit brew crackdown in Kenya. CEO, Charles Ireland says the company is betting on increased uptake of its products to further grow profits in the next financial year
