Draw for CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup released

The Confederation of African Football released the fixtures for the 2019/20 Total CAF Champions League and Total CAF Confederation Cup.
The draw was conducted during the meeting of the CAF Interclubs Committee on Sunday, July 21 2019 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
There will be two rounds of qualifying matches to decide the 16 teams that will compete in the group stages of both tournaments.
The draw was released even as the second leg of the 2018/2019 CAF Champions League final between Esperance of Tunisia and Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca is yet to be replayed.
The game in Tunis was abandoned following problems with the VAR system and the Wydad players refusing to play on resulting in the match and title being awarded to Esperance.
The governing body of African football has been caught up in a crisis since. CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has also been accused of corruption allegations, which he has denied.
In June, the CAF executive committee decided to relinquish control of the running of the organization and have FIFA general secretary Fatma Samoura brought in as “FIFA General Delegate for Africa”.
However, FIFA’s plan to take over the running of African football faces a hurdle after with an executive committee member of the CAF said he will challenge the decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
