The Italian Coastguard has released dramatic footage of people being rescued at the Mediterranean 12 among them children.
A coastguard official is seen jumping into the sea to help pull people out of the water and into the lifeboat.
Thousands of migrants have been rescued in recent days more than 4000 in just one day. So far, more than 85,000 migrants have crossed into Italy this year.
