Donald Trump won. Time to tear your green card as you promised: Nigerians on Twitter hilariously remind Wole Soyinka
Some Nigerians have taken to social media to call on Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka to tear his green card as he had promised he would do if Donald Trump won the United States presidential elections.
Despite being regarded a political outsider, Trump went on to win the polls, beating the more fancied Hillary Clinton, who many had hoped would give Americans their first taste of a woman-presidency.
Soyinka made the vow last week while addressing students of Oxford University, England.
“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up,” said Soyinka, who is scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of African American Affairs.
Nigerians on twitter flocked the social site to remind Soyinka of his promise, and asked him to do as he had said.
Here are some of the tweets;
Prof Wole soyinka funny, he said he will destroy his green card if #Trump wins. I hope he keeps his #promise #keepingmyfingerscrossed
