Lawyers for Uganda’s opposition politician Dr. Kiiza Besigye say they are ready to challenge the results of the country’s Presidential Polls.

The country’s long-serving President Yoweri Museveni won the February 18th polls with a landslide. His close opponent Dr. Kizza Besigye says the polls were rigged to favour Museveni.

The opposition has accused the electoral commission of malpractices to ensure the National Resistance Movement’s leader remains in power. It says there were instances of voter intimidation and pre-ticked ballot sheets.

Visitors have been barred from accessing the home of the opposition’s Forum for Democratic Change leader Besigye. Former Uganda Prime Minister and also Presidential contestant Amama Mbabazi was stopped from visiting Besigye. The police ordered him to return to his home. A few hours later, Kampala’s Mayor elect was also denied access to Besigye.

The Police however say he is planning to hold violent protests in the capital.

A team of lawyers has been assembled to challenge the Presidential polls and the continued arrest of opposition politicians.
