The number of infections from the coronavirus globally approached 650,000, according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins University.
The United States has the highest number of reported cases with more than 115,000 while Italy, Europe’s worst-affected nation had registered 10,779 deaths. More than 30,000 deaths have been reported globally since the virus broke out in December last year.
Only China, France, Iran, Italy and Spain have recorded more COVID-19 related deaths than the United States.
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday issued a travel advisory urging people in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to refrain from non-essential domestic travel for the next two weeks.
Italy, however, on Sunday, reported 756 deaths from the coronavirus representing a second straight day in which the number of deaths of reduced.
The news of the drop in the number of deaths and infections raises hopes that the strict measures put in place by the government in recent weeks are working.
More than 130,000 people have recovered from the virus, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
