Cote d’Ivoire builds a memorial plaque for the legendary Papa Wemba

Cote d’Ivoire has unveiled a plaque in memory of the legendary Congolese rhumba music icon, the late Papa Wemba.

“Papa Wemba’s Place” reads the blue plaque standing a few meters way from the place that the musician was performing when he collapsed to his death on April 24, 2016, during the Festival of Urban Music (Femua).

After one year of his tragic passing the Anoumabo urban music festival (Femua) organizers before more than 2000 spectators pay tribute to Papa Wemba.

Cote d’Ivoire’s Minister of culture and his Congolese counterpart in the presence of Papa Wemba’s daughters and band were at the ceremony.
