
Coronavirus cases surpass 17,000 in China, death toll reaches 361

The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in China currently stands at 361 and more than 500 people have recovered.
The number of total infections in the country has surpassed 17,000 and in the epicenter of the outbreak, Hubei Province, there were more than 2,000 new cases on Sunday while close to 150,000 people across the country are under medical observation. The virus has spread to 23 other countries with a total of 152 confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, the Philippines on Sunday reported the first death outside China, a Chinese national from Wuhan. China’s Foreign ministry said that 16 foreigners in China were infected with the new coronavirus pneumonia and two of them had been discharged from hospital. The ministry added that it appreciated the help from other countries adding that the United States had not yet provided any substantial assistance to China.
