The Comoros government declared a curfew on Wednesday after security forces clashed with protesters angered by the re-election of President Azali Assoumani in a vote denounced by the opposition as fraudulent.

“A curfew has been established,” the presidential delegate responsible for defence, Youssoufa Mohamed Ali, told national television. The measure will last from 10:oo p.m. (19:00 GMT) on Wednesday to 6:00 a.m. on Thursday nationwide, starting a few hours earlier in the capital.
