Coach Hey asks to quit Rwanda after CHAN elimination

Rwanda’s head coach Antoine Hey has asked the country’s football federation to terminate his contract following his team’s exit from the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Ferwafa in a statement said it had “received a proposal from coach Antoine Hey seeking to terminate his contract.”
It did not however give any further information regarding the request, only saying it would meet the Ministry of Sports and Culture “in the upcoming days” to review the German’s request.
“Hey is duly urged to respect contract termination clauses binding both parties,” the statement added.
The 47-year-old was appointed as Rwanda’s head coach in March 2017, beating off competition from Swiss Raoul Savoy and Portugal’s Jose Rui Lopes Aguas.
Hey has previously managed Lesotho, The Gambia, Liberia and Kenya.
He is reported to be a possible target for Syria’s national team.
Rwanda was knocked out of the CHAN 2018 tournament on Tuesday after losing to Libya by 1-0. The East African side finished third in Group C, from which Nigeria and Libya qualified as winner and first runner up consecutively.
The tournament’s quarter final games are set to begin today, with host Morocco playing Namibia and Zambia playing Sudan.
Sunday will see Nigeria play Angola, with Congo playing Libya.
The Rwanda squad returned to Kigali on Friday.
