Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Singapore
Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Singapore for a state visit, at the invitation of his Singaporean counterpart Tony Tan Keng Yam.
This comes immediately after the Chinese President’s first state visit to Vietnam.
During the Chinese President’s visit to the city-state, China and Singapore agreed to redefine their ties as a partnership of all-round cooperation keeping with the times.
The two sides also agreed to launch negotiations on an upgrade of a 7-year-old free trade agreement.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, President Xi attended a welcome ceremony hosted by President Tan upon his arrival.
And later he attended a grand banquet.
Xi said the sound development of bilateral relations has brought benefits to the people from both sides, contributing to regional peace, stability and prosperity.
The Chinese president said he expects to discuss bilateral relations, as well as international and regional issues of common interests during his meeting with President Tan and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
