Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit DPRK from June 20 to 21
Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) from June 20 to 21, Hu Zhaoming, spokesperson for the International Department of the CPC Central Committee announced on Monday.
The visit comes at the invitation of Kim Jong Un, chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK.
The historic visit will be the first by a Chinese leader to DPRK in more than a decade.
The last time a Chinese president visited DPRK was in 2005 when President Hu Jintao traveled to Pyongyang to meet his counterpart, Kim Jong Il.
President Xi and Kim are expected to hold discussion on enhancing bilateral relations between their countries.
China and the DPRK enjoy cordial relations, evident by the four times Kim Jong Un visited China in the past year or so.
