
Chinese President Xi Jinping meets Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta
Chinese President Xi Jinping met Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday as the 2019 Belt and Road forum begun in Beijing.
President Xi noted that he has met President Kenyatta three times in less than a year, which reflects the strategic relationship between the two countries.
He also pointed out that China wants to strengthen cooperation with Kenya on important projects and encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Kenya.
President Kenyatta congratulated China’s great achievements, especially in lifting 700 million people out of poverty.
He said that Kenya is willing to deepen cooperation on infrastructure and make the Belt and Road Initiative stretch to middle and western Africa.
The two leaders also witnessed the signing of bilateral agreements on cooperation.
