Chines President Xi Jinping will send a special envoy to attend the Zambian president’s inauguration ceremony that will be held on Tuesday in the capital Lusaka.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that Ma Biao, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, will be part of the team that will attend the inauguration ceremony of Zambian President Edgar Lungu.

Zambia’s High Court gave President Edgar Lungu the greenlight to take oath after rejecting an application by the main opposition party to block his inauguration following last month’s contested elections.

Lungu was declared winner of the August 11 vote ahead of Hakainde Hichilema who disputed the results citing irregularities.

Lungu will now serve another five-year term as president of the Southern African nation.
