Chinese peacekeepers injured in South Sudan violence finally discharged from hospital
Two Chinese peacekeepers that were seriously wounded in South Sudan’s violence last month have finally been discharged from hospital.
The two Chen Ying and Huo Yahui were seriously injured when a mortar shell hit their armoured vehicles when fighting broke out in the capital Juba between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and those loyal to former first vice president Riek Machar.
The five-day heavy gun battle killed close to 300 people and forced thousands others to flee to neighbouring countries.
In addition to the two injured Chinese peacekeepers, two others were killed while three others sustained minor injuries.
