Thousands of miles away from China, soldiers from the third Chinese Peacekeeping Infantry Battalion in South Sudan’s capital,Juba, are keeping an eye on the 19th CPC National Congress.
The soldiers are determined not to miss the discussions of the Congress, and even set up alarms before the start of the opening ceremony, which happened to be as early as 4:00AM local time.
“As peacekeeping militaries who are working abroad, we must actively study the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, and make due contributions to maintaining world peace,” Shi Haojun, a soldier from the 3rd battalion said.
In his report at the beginning of the Congress, President Xi Jinping pointed out that China has initiated a new stage in strengthening and revitalizing the armed forces.
Xi expressed optimism that his country’s new goal of being more active on the international stage will translate to a more peaceful world.
The peacekeepers in South Sudan say they are ready to uphold the spirit of the CPC in their duties.
“All officers and soldiers of the 3rd battalion will study and uphold the spirit of the CPC National Congress and pass on the “Red Gene” to undertake the important mission of maintaining world peace and continue to offer Chinese efforts to co-creating the bright future of mankind,” Commanding officer of thr 3rd Chinese Battalion said.
Africa remains keen on the happenings at the Congress in Beijing. Leaders from across the continent have expressed optimism that the forum will benefit their nations.
