Chinese Foreign Minister to wrap up African tour in Namibia
China’s foreign minister Wang Yi has been on a four nation Africa tour since Sunday. He has already visited Malawi, Mauritius and Mozambique, and will wrapping up his visit in Namibia.
It’s a tour aimed at finding ways of implementing the outcomes of the summit for China-Africa Cooperation that was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, last December.
Key issues were discussed and agreements signed when the visiting foreign minister met Malawi President Peter Mutharika and Malawi’s foreign minister George Chaponda.
They agreed to enhance cooperation, especially in economic development, industrialization and infrastructure.
In Mauritius where Yi went for the second leg of his tour, the economy, agriculture, health care and curbing climate change were top of the agenda. Tourism and investment were also discussed when he met Mauritius President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim. The two countries have also promised to further strengthen ties.
Yi then made his third stop in Mozambique where he held talks with President Filipe Nyusi and discussed various issues ranging from the energy sector, infrastructure, and manufacturing. China has also promised to help Mozambique in improving the security sector and food production.
