Chinese firm builds bridge for Zambian community
A Chinese enterprise, China Nonferrous Metal Mining Company (CNMC), has embarked on the construction of a bridge across Kafubu stream in Kalulushi’s District in Zambia.
The Chinese mining firm embarked on the construction of the project last month and is expected to be completed before the end of August this year.
Kampamba Mulenga Chewe, who is Kalulushi Member of Parliament, said the Chinese company was responding to request that was made by the community to construct a bridge on Kafubu River.
Chewe said CNMC undertook the project under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program as a way of uplifting the welfare of the community in the area of its operations.
According to Chewe, once the bridge project is completed, it would ease the movement of people and farm produce to the markets as well as improve economic activities among the stakeholders.
“This project has been undertaken in order to bring development to communities in the peri-urban areas in the district, we want to thank the company for ploughing back to the community, the Chinese partners have really been so helpful to the Zambian government,” she said.
Chewe said people in the area faced challenges to access various social amenities, saying that the bridge is a necessity as it will not only create a crossing point but also a linkage between Kalulushi and Lufwanyama districts.
She has advised people in the constituency to support Chinese investors.
