Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Wu Peng has pledged his country’s unwavering support for Kenya’s development agenda.
Ambassador Wu made the pledge on Thursday when the Chinese embassy in Nairobi hosted an open day to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, which falls on October 1st.
The event brought together over 300 guests including local Kenyan companies as well as Chinese companies based in Nairobi to showcase their products.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Wu said the 70th anniversary celebrations marked China’s robust growth since 1949.
“On October 1st 1949, Chairman Mao solemnly declared to the world, the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Since then, China truly became an independent nation. Just like the Madaraka Day for our Kenyan brothers and sisters, the day marked the historic moment we became our own masters and China embarked on a new journey,” he said.
Since embarking on the landmark reforms, China has grown to become one of the fastest developing nations in the world, and also one of the most powerful nations globally.
“In 2018 China’s GDP reached $13.6 trillion a 174 fold increase since 1949. Under the leadership of the communist party of China, the Chinese people united as one are striving to move forward from poverty and weakness to prosperity and strength. We have created miracles one after another in human history,” Ambassador Wu said.
Various other Chinese embassies across Africa have held celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, with reiterations of even better Sino-Africa relations ahead.
