China hopes to enhance political mutual trust and expand cooperation in all fields with The Gambia, foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Wednesday as President Adama Barrow visits Beijing.

Barrow is visiting China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

China and The Gambia resumed diplomatic relations in March 2016 after ties had been severed for 21 years.

Barrow is the first Gambian president to visit China since the two countries resumed ties.

The two leaders are expected to hold talks about trade, transport, health and agriculture in which The Gambia needs China’s assistance.

President Barrow will also meet Chinese investors to encourage them to come and invest in The Gambia.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and top legislator Zhang Dejiang will also meet with Barrow.
