China Road and Bridge Construction honors Kenyan employees for years of service

Since work started on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line between Mombasa and Nairobi in December 2014, China Road and Bridge Construction (CRBC) has established itself as a major driver of socio-economic transformation in Kenya.

This was the core message of the CRBC Long Service 2018 Awards Ceremony, held Wednesday in Nairobi. Speaking during the ceremony,  CRBC General Manager, Li Changgui revealed that while striving to improve Kenya’s infrastructure, his company also attached importance of building stronger ties between the Chinese and Kenyan people.

‘’Taking the Madaraka Express as an example during the contractor period we organized more than 130 local social welfare activities, including drilling wells, donating to schools, participating in environmental activities and so on”, Mr. Li said.   He added that CRBC will continue to share the responsibilities and actively participate in Kenya’s economic and social development.

The long service award was established in 2010 and is held every two years. A total of 67 employees were honored. Among them, 46 people who have worked for the company for 10 years. 61 workers received the best employee award.

In the past 34 years, there have been many loyal employees who worked diligently for CRBC for a long time and made great contributions to the company’s growth in Kenya.

In his victory speech, Edwin Odhiambo, who won the longest-serving employee award has worked for the CRBC since 2006, explained how the company has helped him achieve personal goals.

‘’Since I joined I have benefitted as I’ve been able to pay school fees and people can attest to that’’, Odhiambo remarks

Reading from the same script was also Harrison Kinyajui who was representing the best employee of 2018 in the awards ceremony

This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Kenya.  CRBC now says the Belt and Road Initiative, along with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big 4 agenda will bring more benefit to Kenyans

 The SGR line is the biggest infrastructure project ever undertaken in the region.
