A high-level delegation of Chinese media professionals has visited the Tunisian Public Television studios in Tunis.

Over the past six years, collaboration between the two broadcasters has increased considerably.

“We’ve co-produced two documentaries. The first is entitled ‘Tunisia in the eyes of the Chinese people’. The second one is ‘China is in the eyes of the Tunisian people…. both productions have been very successful,” said Elyes Gharbi, CEO, Tunisian public television.

China is hoping to develop media and cultural exchanges and cooperation with Tunisia.

“The media sector is vital to cultural exchanges between China and Tunisia. We’ve had good feedback when Chinese TV productions are aired in Tunisia. Now we want to deepen those ties and work together on new projects,” said Wu Baoan, Director General of the General Office, SAPPRFT.

Tunisia’s public broadcaster is planning to air more Chinese TV programmes translated into Arabic.

“We’re looking at soap operas and other TV shows to introduce China to Tunisians. The media and cultural exchange opens doors for stronger economic ties between our countries,” said Elyes Gharbi, CEO, Tunisian public television.

The media collaboration is also an aspect of the ambitious New Silk Road project, which aims to improve relations between China and its partners in Africa.

Later this week, the Chinese delegation will attend the annual festival of the Arab States Broadcasting Union in the coastal city of Hammamet. The event aims to familiarize journalists and media professionals from the Arab world with Chinese culture.
