CHAN 2018: Morocco beats Nigeria to continental glory

Read < 1 minute

Morocco is the new champion of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after beating Nigeria 4-0 in the final played at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.

The hosts, despite a fantastic start, had to wait until the 45th minute to go ahead through Zakaria Hadraf.

The game went into the break with the sole goal separating the two sides in the chilly weather of Casablanca.

Back from the break, things got worse for Nigeria, which had a player sent off in the early stages of the second half.

Peter Eneji got his marching orders after a clumsy challenge on Zakaria to break a swift attack towards his box.

The North African side took advantage of the numerical advantage and doubled its lead through Walid El Karti in the 61st minute.

Zakaria added a third, his second of the game, to ensure Morocco were well in control of the game in front of the thousands of home fans.

Ayoub Kaabi scored a fourth in the 73rd minute to ensure the CHAN trophy remained in Morocco.

Morocco’s win meant it became the fourth winner of the CHAN trophy after the Democratic Republic of Congo (2), Tunisia (1) and Libya (1).
