Champions League Draw: Chelsea face Barcelona, Real Madrid to battle PSG

Read 2 minutes

Chelsea face an uphill task in their Champions League quest, after being drawn against Spanish giants Barcelona in the Round of 16.

The draw was conducted on Monday in Nyon, Switzerland, and the Blues will now have to be at their best to knock the star-studded Catalans out of the competition.

Fellow English side Tottenham Hotspurs also got a tough challenge against Italian giants and last season finalists Juventus, but will take solace from the fact that they topped their group ahead of Real Madrid.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool however got favourable draws – at least on paper – after they were pitted against Basel, Sevilla and Porto respectively.

Other matches lined up in the Round of 16 are;

  • Real Madrid vs Paris Saint Germain
  • Shakhtar Donetsk vs AS Roma
  • Bayern Munich vs Besiktas

The game pitting defending champions Real Madrid and French giants Paris Saint Germain has already been billed as the game of the stage, as the mega-money Parisians seek to prove their worth after spending millions in the summer to revamp the squad.
