Chad tells Boko Haram leader to surrender or die
President Idriss Deby of Chad says he knows the whereabouts of Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram, and is calling on him to surrender or risk being killed.
President Deby is quoted by AFP as saying: “It is in Abubakar Shekau’s interest to surrender, we know where he is. If he refuses to give himself up, he will suffer the same fate as his comrades,”
Abubakar Shekahu who is publicly known as the leader of Boko Haram, has been in hiding since the group started committing atrocities against innocent civilians in 2009.
However he has appeared severally in propaganda video clips released by the group giving warnings and telling of intentions to commit more crime.
Shekau is on the most wanted list of the United States government.
The Nigerian military has severally claimed to have killed Mr. Shekau, who is also wanted by the United States government only for the man to appear later in video clips like the one where the group abducted school girls.
There have been collective military operations by Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger to repel Boko Haram however the efforts have been hampered by lack of equipment with some politicians claiming that the group is more equipped than the military itself.
