Chadian Prime Minister Allamaye Halina announced the resignation of his government on Tuesday.

The resignation came shortly after the country’s lawmakers took an oath after the first parliamentary elections in over a decade.

“This decision is in keeping with republican tradition following the official establishment of the new legislature, the 4th of our democratic era,” Halina said in his resignation letter submitted to President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno.

Halina’s resignation paves the way for a new government.
