CCTV has launched a new international media organization, China Global Television Network (CGTN), to integrate resources and to adapt to the trend of media convergence.
CGTN is a multi-language and multi-platform media grouping. It consists of six TV channels, a video content provider and a digital media division.
CCTV News has been rebranded as CGTN, the prime news channel of the new organization. CCTV Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian are renamed CGTN Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian. CCTV Documentary English is now CGTN Documentary. CGTN.com is the official website of CGTN.
CGTN will strengthen its global reporting ability and communication skills to provide viewers with better services. It will build its mobile new media platform and also explore media convergence.
CGTN is headquartered at the new CCTV building in Beijing. It will put together an international professional team. CGTN currently has production centers in Washington and Nairobi. A Europe production center is also under preparation.
