A Rwandese court on Friday delayed a case against opposition politician Diane Shima Rwigara to Monday after she told the presiding judge that she had not been able to find a lawyer because the authorities had not told her about the hearing in time.
Rwigara, an accountant, is charged with inciting insurrection and forgery.
She appeared in court together with her mother and sister, who had been charged separately with “discrimination and sectarianism.”
Rwigara was barred from running in the August presidential election, with the electoral authority saying she had not submitted enough signatures to be allowed to contest.
It also accused her of forging some signatures, saying some names belonged to people who had died.
President Paul Kagame went on to win the vote with 98.8 percent, earning him a third term in office.
Rwigara and the other two were supposed to be formally charged in court on Friday, but that has now been postponed to Monday to give her time to get a lawyer to represent her.
