Cape Town Water Crisis: City institutes level 5 water restriction on residents, businesses

The City of Cape Town is anticipating that its supply of municipal water could run out by March next year.

The current plans to build a desalination plant which could cost billions could be an amount out of reach. To mitigate the pressure, the city has instituted a level 5 water restriction.

This means each person is allowed just 87 litres of water per day and businesses have to slash consumption by 20%.

Now with the tourism season approaching, things are set to become more difficult but some businesses are forging ahead with their own initiatives to conserve the regions precious resource, CGTN’s Travers Andrews has this report:
