Cameroon women’s football team is confident of a positive outing in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup scheduled to be played in France next month.

The Central African side will competing at the stage for the second time, having participated in the 2015 World Cup.

The Indomitable Lionesses are pooled alongside Canada, New Zealand and the Netherlands in Group E, and forward Nchout Njoya Ajara is confident her side will progress beyond the group stage.

“As a team we want to go as far possible. There’s a feeling that Cameroon can do better in France,” BBC Sport quotes Ajara.

“Four years ago we took the world by surprise and now many people will want to see us improve on that performance.

“We have to be cautious. I see a lot of people saying that these aren’t very difficult teams and I’m surprised. We have to respect our opponents.

“Canada, New Zealand and the Netherlands have produced some good players in the past and must be taken seriously. Still I believe if we continue training hard we’ll be a tough side to play,” Ajara added.

Cameroon will be joined in France by Nigeria and South Africa as Africa continues to hunt for its first ever Women’s World Cup trophy.

While Nigeria will be playing at the Women’s World Cup for the eighth time, the 2019 tournament will be the first that South Africa will participate in.

No African side had ever reached the semi final stage of the Women’s World Cup.
