Cameroonian President Paul Biya on Friday evening signed a decree announcing partial legislative election rerun in Anglophone regions on March 22.
The rerun will take place in 11 constituencies of the crisis prone English-speaking regions, which represent 13 of the total 180 seats of Cameroon’s National Assembly.
The elections in these constituencies were nullified on February 25 by the country’s Constitutional Council, citing irregularities during polling caused by violence of armed separatists.
Armed separatists have been fighting to establish an independent state in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions since 2017.
Cameroon held legislative and municipal elections on February 9. The ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement won a sweeping victory in both elections, according to official results.
