Under 17 African champions Cameroon was eliminated from the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup following a 2-0 loss to Spain in their Group E match at the Valmir Campelo Bezerrao Stadium in Brasilia, Brazil, on Sunday night.

Spain claimed the three points in a game it dominated courtesy of first-half goals from Jordi Escobar and Ilaix Moriba.

Cameroon’s chances were already hanging by a thread following defeats to Tajikistan and Argentina and the team needed to secure a big win to finish as one of the best four third-placed teams.

Cameroon finished bottom of the group without a win while Spain and South American champions Argentina progressed to the knockout stage.

With Angola, five-time champions Nigeria and Senegal already into the last 16, Cameroon is the only African representative not to progress from the group stage at this tournament.

The knockout stages will be played between November 5-7.
