The Confederations of African Football (CAF) is set to hold its General Assembly later on Friday, with the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) expected to high on the agenda.

Cameroon is scheduled to host the continental competition, but CAF has since last year expressed fears the Central African nation’s preparations are behind schedule.

CAF Director of Communications Junior Binyam last week said the body will hold deliberations following a report it received from consultancy firm Roland Berger, which toured the country from 12-23 January to assess Cameroon’s preparedness.

“An intermediary report will be sent by the inspectors,” Binyam said.

“That will be part of the Africa Cup of Nations committee agenda.”

The General Assembly will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Morocco’s commercial hub, Casablanca.

The North African country is hosting the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which was stripped from Kenya after CAF deemed it unprepared.

Morocco won the bid after beating Guinea Bissau and Ethiopia, which has also shown an interest to host the competition.

CAF President Ahmad Ahmad in October 2017 said that Cameroon would have to convince the body that it was prepared to host the tournament, which was increased to accommodate 24 teams. Initially only 16 teams qualified for the tournament.

the 2019 AFCON is expected to be played in five stadia across Cameroon, in the cities of Bafoussam, Douala, Garoua, Limbe and Yaounde.

A decision is expected to be made public after the Assembly.
