CAF Confederation Cup: Egypt’s Pyramids win, Nigeria’s Enyimba held

Nigerian club Enyimba was held to a 1-1 draw by Guinean side Horoya in their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal first leg at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, Nigeria, on Sunday.
Augustine Oladapo gave the Nigerians an 18th minute lead only for Boniface Haba to equalize for Guineans 19 minutes from time.
Two-time Champions League winners Enyimba dominated possession but both sides hardly mustered significant chances with both registering one goal attempt and one shot on goal in the entire game.
Egyptian side Pyramids F.C. took a commanding first leg lead following a 3-0 win away to Zambia’s Zanaco at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Goals from Ali Gabr, Mohamed Farouk and a penalty from Abdallah Said gave the Egyptians, who are making their debut in CAF competition, a healthy advantage heading into the second leg.
In the third quarterfinal, Karim El Berkaoui scored a hat-trick as Moroccan side Hassania Agadir thrashed Libya’s Al Nasr 5-0 at the Petrosport Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.
Senegal’s Malick Cisse also netted a brace in the last 12 minutes as the Moroccans completely dominated the hosts who were playing away from home due to the ongoing conflict in Libya.
In the fourth quarterfinal, Mouhssine Iajour netted twice as 2019 finalists RS Berkane of Morocco salvaged a 2-2 draw away to Egyptian club El Masry at the Suez Stadium in Suez, Egypt.
Iajour gave Berkane the lead just before halftime but a strike from Moftah Taktak just after the restart and an own goal by Zouhair Laaroubi put the home side ahead.
Iajour equalised eight minutes before time to give the Moroccans a crucial second away goal.
The return legs are scheduled to be played on March 8. The final will be played on May 24 at a venue to be decided.
