Burundi will no longer withdraw troops from AMISOM

Read < 1 minute

Burundi will no longer be withdrawing its peacekeepers out of Somalia.

That comes after the country reached an agreement with the African Union last week. The country had threatened to pull out over payment. The peacekeepers haven’t received their salaries in over year. That’s partly due to the European Union cutting direct funding to the country following the political instability there. Now, though, the AU Peace and Security Commission will be paying those salaries directly.

Burundi is the second largest troop contributing country to the AU Mission in Somalia after Uganda.
