Burundi made history by qualifying for its first Africa Cup of Nations tournament following a 1-1 draw with Gabon in Bujumbura.
The hosts came into the game knowing that a draw would be enough to send them through ahead of Gabon, who trailed them by two points.
Cédric Amissi opened the scoring for the hosts in the 77th minute but an own goal by Omar Ngandu five minutes later set up a tense finale.
The result sees Burundi qualify from Group C along with group winners Mali who are scheduled to play South Sudan later on Saturday.
Burundi so far joins Kenya and Uganda as East Africa’s representatives to the tournament that will be held between June 15 and July 13 in Egypt.
