The deadline set for the Nigerian army by President Muhammadu Buhari to eradicate Boko Haram is in question.

The president, more than three months ago, ordered the army to destroy the militants by December. But on Monday he said that deadline is open to modification.

Buhari says his government will assess the current situation and act appropriately. The president also said the Nigerian Army must come up with strategies to ensure the total elimination of Boko Haram.

Buhari has assured Nigerians that the gains made against the group so far will soon restore stability to the affected areas. Boko Haram operates mostly in Nigeria’s North-east.
