The bodies of the 12 Ugandan soldiers that were killed in an al-Shabaab ambush last week in Somalia have arrived back home.
The slain Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) who were on duty with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) were killed in a Sunday attack in the Bulamareer district of the Lower Shabelle region, about 140km southwest of the capital, Mogadishu.
Their bodies arrived in the UPDF airbase in Entebbe on Wednesday afternoon, where they were received by the deputy Chief of Defence Forces Lt. Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi.
Al-Shabaab has waged a decade-long war in Somalia in efforts to topple successive governments and instil strict Sharia governance.
The war has killed thousands and forced millions to flee their homes.
The African Union has a 22,000 strong force in the country dedicated to fighting al-Shabab and supporting the Somali troops.
