Berlin Marathon 2017: Africans set their sight on smashing world record

Kenyans Eliud Kipchoge, Wilson Kipsang and Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele are currently facing off in one of the marathon’s greatest ever head-to-heads in Berlin.
It is believed that today the men’s marathon world record could be smashed by half a minute.
Kipchoge, the reigning Olympic marathon champion, Kenenisa Bekele, the triple Olympic track champion and former world record holder Wilson Kipsang are all targeting the existing two hours two minutes 57 seconds world record.
That mark was set by Dennis Kimetto at the 2014 Berlin Marathon and the last six world records have come on the German capital’s flat course.
With Kipchoge coming into the race fresh off the back of his 2:00.25 Nike-sponsored marathon under artificial conditions – and not counting towards official records – earlier this year, the Kenyan is odds-on to break the world record.
