Belt and Road Forum set to open in Beijing on Sunday
The final touches are being put in place at the National Convention Center in the Chinese capital, Beijing, where world leaders will gather for the Belt and Road Forum.
President Xi Jinping will on Sunday officially welcome the more than two dozen leaders who are attending. The leaders are from some of the 65 countries that have signed up for the One Belt One Road Initiative.
Experts say that once President Xi kicks the initiative off,it is expected to help stimulate globalized economic growth.
Among those attending are the heads of state from Ethiopia and Kenya. Of course, Ethiopia having the electric rail that connects the country to Djibouti, that has now been completed, while Kenya is regarded as quite important because of the port of Mombasa, that is regarded as a key access point for Africa for the Maritime Road that makes up the One Belt One Road Initiative.
Another delegation that will be attending is the U.S. President Donald Trump will not attend, but his senior adviser will, which is very important for the Chinese to see that the U.S. is at least listening. That works to show that the U.S. recognizes that the One Belt One Road Initiative is important.
Some of the participants say that they want to see concrete actions. Not just pledges of $150 billion a year into the One Belt One Road Initiative, but actually delivery on those investments.
African countries have particularly expressed that they want to see the Chinese investments in the continent creating local economic growth and of course job creation.
They expect to have a chance to have some of those questions addressed and answered when they hear from President Xi Jinping as well as the other Chinese representatives when the conference begins on Sunday.
